On Sundays June 2 and June 9, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Jonathan and Laurie Weiss return with a two-day workshop on Logosynthesis, a deceptively simple verbal technique for dissolving re-actions to past, present or anticipated stressful situations. It is based on a spiritual/metaphysical point of view that holds that our basic life energy can get stuck in reaction to anything that happens to us that we can’t fully process. Spring Clean-up on May 25th

Come join your fellow church congregants to brighten our grounds. We will be gardening from 10-2 with a break for luncheon pizza. We always have a great time and the grounds LOVE the attention. Bring your gardening tools (if you don’t have any, we will have a few extra) and some annuals or perennials to add color to the gardens. This year has been particularly hard on our bulbs and we can use some color!

Also, if you love gardening but have no grounds of your own, our gardens can use some ongoing love during the blooming season. Let our church administrator, Pam Geddy, know you’re coming and then just come over and dig in whenever you are so moved. Bind weed seems to have particular fondness for our church so there is always weeding to be done.

ENNEAGRAM WORKSHOP WITH STEPHEN HATCH, M.A.

The Enneagram is often used as a profound tool to help uncover our blocks to spiritual growth. As a result, many people complain that the system sometimes seems overly negative.

Have you ever wondered what the SACRED aspects of each type are? The traditional term for describing these qualities is the “Holy Ideas.” That system, however, is often inconsistent and difficult to understand. Therefore, Stephen Hatch (a FOUR) has developed an alternative system called the “Sacred Ideas,” using insights from the earlier system and adding to or altering them as necessary. This system includes three Sacred Ideas – i.e., insights or qualities – for each of the types.

In this workshop, we will focus on a few of these qualities, revealing how each embodies a different insight about or aspect of the Divine Presence. The assumption is made that even though each of us embodies a single dominant type, we have access as well to the insights provided by each of the types. Because the Divine is a Unity, each of us contains aspects of ALL of the types within our being. We grow spiritually when we learn to embody these other traits in addition to those of our own core type.

Opportunity will be provided during this workshop for discussion of each of the Sacred Ideas covered.

Stephen Hatch, M.A. studied Christian Mysticism and World Religions at Iliff School of Theology. He has taught for Thomas Keating’s Contemplative Outreach and has spent the past 30 years living as a “monk in the world” while raising a family. His specialties are Spirituality-and-Nature, Christian Mysticism, Men’s Spirituality, and the Spiritual Aspects of the Enneagram.

Creativity and Mysticism

This quarter our speakers will focus on an intriguing topic. As we begin the spring season of growth, optimism, and renewal, we turn to the idea of companionship between creativity and mysticism. A mystic seeks to access and relate to the One Source of Creation. As we explore our own creativity, we should not be surprised if we stumble into a mystical experience.

On Sunday, April 7, our first speaker on this topic will be Kate McPhee, painter, sculptor, illustrator, and maker of things of all sorts. She is a long-time member of the Divine Science community.

April 14 and 28, 2013 – We are thrilled that Lili Zohar, one of our favorite speakers, will be here on two Sundays to share her thoughts on our topic for the quarter, “Creativity and Mysticism”. Her topic for April 14th is “Chaos and Creativity” and on April 28th, she will speak on “Creativity and The Book of Life”. Lili has twenty-plus years of spiritual practice and study of the world’s great wisdom traditions and is informed by the teachings of Kabbalah. For the last ten years she has immersed herself in the study of holistic healing. She is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher and 30-year practitioner and lifelong student of yoga in the Hatha, Ivengar and Ashtanga and Prajna traditions. Lili is a conflict specialist with 25-plus years of experience in law, negotiation and conflict resolution.

April 21, 2013 – Our speaker will be Bob Luna. He will speak on the topic “Spirit Creates the Wind”. Bob is a local artist and teacher.

The annual meeting of First Divine Science Church of Denver is being held Sunday, March 24 at 12:30 PM, following our community lunch, in the dining room of the church. It will include reports from the members of the Board of Directors and the election of new board members. Be sure to attend and to make your support and wishes known.

St. Patrick’s Day Celebration with Kathleen Cain

March 17, 2013 – St. Patrick’s Day – Kathleen Cain will speak to us about “St. Patrick’s Dream.” Kathleen is a fifth-generation Irish-American who has made 10 visits to her “home” country and had the privilege of living there for a short time. She is also a poet and nonfiction author. A forthcoming essay from Feile – Festa recalls a magical summer night spent on The Great Blasket Island off the coast of Kerry. She relies on her Irish and Celtic heritage for spiritual sustenance among the small ways of life.

In addition, our amazing pianist Stephen Fordham has composed a work for piano, flute and voice which will be performed this coming Sunday. Stephen will be on piano, Alaunde Copley on flute, and Kristine Shafer will be singing. Join us for what promises to be a wonderful service, celebrating all things Irish.
